CAABertie Pet Pantry Presentation to Town of Aulander

Companion Animal Advocates of Bertie (CAABertie) will present information on the new pet food pantry initiative to the Town of Askewville town council on Monday, October 8, 2022, at 6:00 pm.

This presentation is one more outreach, continuing our efforts to connect with local municipalities to raise awareness for animal issues. If you live within Aulander town limits and support our effort to bring this resource to you, please join us at that meeting and stand with us for animals.

About our presentation:

Our presentation will briefly overview how CAABertie formed as a citizen-powered movement.

• Explain the Little Free Pantry movement and how it translates to a Pet Pantry. We don’t judge – we follow the LFP “give what you can, take what you need” mindset.
• Explain the pet pantry initiative and how local students at the Bertie High School helped build two pantry boxes and a local volunteer built an additional three. Volunteers also installed the 4 existing pantries.
• Demonstrate that a pet pantry can help deter companion animal dropoffs at the Bertie Humane Society or abandonment.
• We want space near the Town Hall or APD. Both are high-traffic, central locations.
• Ask the town council to determine if a need exists in Aulander for a pet pantry.
• Offer to connect municipal officials and residents to resources to improve the lives of companion animals. These include TNR/feral cat colony mitigation funding, grant funds we might find, etc.
